101 Things in 1,001 Days
About This Project
The Mission: Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.
The Criteria: Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on your part).
Started on the website Triplux.com, the 101 Things in 1,001 Days project has become widespread across the Internet. My personal goal in participating is to get rid of a long list of things I'd been intending on doing for quite a while, to think of some new creative things to try to have fun with, and to keep myself going, as it were, now that I'm out of college and find very little goal-making necessary.
The project gradually became something I tried to be as creative as possible with - hence this website. It is in blog/journal format, but I felt the need to code the blog myself (with help from Codegrrl.com, as I am by no means a PHP wizard); this way I could add the features I felt were necessary without having to completely strip down another blogging script such as Wordpress. Such small accomplishments may mean very little to the reader, but as I've never taken on a project so grand as creating a blog script, things like this tend to encourage me to continue with the 101 goals list, and to appreciate the parts of me that come out of hiding while I'm attempting them.
My personal 101 Things project was started on my livejournal. The original list can be seen there, as well as some possible parallel entries (as some of my LJ friends seem to be interested in my progress). However, those will probably be deleted - this website is the permanent home of my records; anyway, why have the same entry in two different locations?
Survey
This survey has been blatantly stolen from the LJ community jan1_2008, which was created for Livejournal users who have decided to start their 101 Things in 1,001 days projects on January 1, 2008. What a great idea!
What changes do you hope to see in yourself, or your lifestyle, at the end of your 1001 days?
I hope that I will have a more "get up and get out" attitude towards my goals in life. Before I started this project, I figured I'd "get to things eventually" and that's how I lived. However, now that I am seven months in with only 16 things done, I'm seeing the importance of non-procrastination. If I have a goal, I want to go towards it, not just let it silently pass by while I watch it go. I hope that by the time this project is over, I'm excited to start another one and prepared to jump at every item on the list.
Which three items on your list will be most challenging to achieve?
#3: For the span of 365 days, write in a hand-written journal every day. I've tried this twice already and stopped around 5-6 months each time. I hope that I can successfully get through it with the support of my friends who are also doing this sort of goal.
#80: Don't bite nails for an entire month. I've been trying this unsuccessfully for 3-4 years.
#85: Save $1 a day for the entire year of 2008. It seems simple, but it's whether or not I'll remember to do it more than anything. I'm allowing myself to "make up" for lost days, though, up to a week's worth of time. So maybe I should just save $7 a week.
