Third Day of Work

Guy comes up to me and says, nervously, “where is your erotica?” I tell him I can take him there (I don’t know the store well enough to give directions). His wife comes in and says “honey somethingrather kids” and he goes “OH FUCK sorry, no, I’ll be back, I promise.”

I was there from 2-close (close is 9.30) and there was a guy looking at the philosophy section who was there before I got in and left around 9. I mean, just in the philosophy section, and not even reading/browsing a certain book.

I, apparently, made a perfect latte (they base perfectness on weight). I don’t know if I was even supposed to be in the cafe but I learned how to make all sorts of drinks and I probably won’t remember any of it come morning, but it was fun. I made a $1 tip, too.

The best part of the job overall was close, when I got to go through the shelves, straightening books and making sure everything was in the right section. Oh, and going to the bank after 5 hours of standing and reading tiny words, but that wasn’t really a duty so much as a random invite.

When I first went in I was required to shelve for-sale books and I was apalled and disappointed by their lack of organization, but by the end of the day I realized how absolutely necessary it is to just stick books where they fit because ohmigod it is so much work.

It wasn’t stressful or nerve-wrecking like I thought it would be. I’m only intimidated by two other employees (so far) but that’s just because they never make eye contact and seem to avoid me as much as possible. Everyone else is really nice. Otherwise, it was fun. Being near books really calms me to weird proportions, so I think that helped a lot. They are safe company.
