I live in the Commonwealth of Virginia but I someday dream of residing in Maryland; however, my favorite part of life is the independent bookstore job I currently use as an excuse to collect more books.
If you’ve not already gathered from my journal posts or gone through my website to see, I love to read. I feel this is the most important and most redeeming quality I possess. Not only do I love to read, but I collect books, read books on how to read books (e.g., Mortimer J. Adler’s How to Read A Book, John Sutherland’s How to Read A Novel), read books about or containing books (e.g., The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl, The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana by Umberto Eco), have the intelligence to talk about books I haven’t read with people who are currently reading them, catalogue the books I collect, organize said books by genre on my bookshelves, and only get distracted from daily reading when the inspiration fairy brings me creative ideas.
I spend my rare creative spurts designing, painting, drawing, pixelling, etc. Most of my artistic life has been spent designing websites; I started when I was just 14 and I’ve improved more and more with every purchased domain. My passion for other artistic endeavors didn’t form until I reached college age, and weren’t enhanced until I found a job that paid well enough for supplies. On the rare occassion that I do make something useful, however, I pride myself on simple things such as brush strokes, color selection, and lighting.
The remaining time that isn’t spent reading or interpreting life through color is spent designing new worlds through writing. I’ll not write the next great American novel, but I may self-publish a few along the way - given that I have the patience and ambition to continue writing on the same subject. I have completed one novel, but I have mostly found my place writing fragments of thoughts and short stories that describe a dream or idea.
My dreams in life include living in a town house, building a family, opening an independent bookstore, or working permanently in the publishing business. My final resting place is, of course, currently unknown, but I hope it will be on a lonely countryside in Cheshire, England.
