When it was time for Richard to go to bed, I said I’d stay with him for as long as I could. A contact-comfort, something people dream about when they’re not in love. His breathing became very steady and suddenly I realized that I was very hungry. I was thinking of cheese puffs, or similar foods, wanting them to keep my eyes alert. Snacks, bags that crumple at the touch with piercing noises that hold one’s attention. We don’t keep things like that around the house.
I snuck out of bed and back into my green chair in the corner of the living room. Two hours past already? All that I have already prepared is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich made for a Wednesday lunch. It’s been sitting in the refridgerator and the bread expired on Tuesday. Looks normal enough, so I shall eat it once the temperature drops a bit.
I should have prepared more food in anticipation of Richard’s work schedule. He’ll be awake in four hours. Hopefully I’ll still be up, but I’ve been known to sleep in this chair several times, despite some particular discomforts - metal bars made specifically to massage, but a furball from the past had chewed the wires.
Ah, back to my witches.
