Currently Reading: Lasher by Anne Rice
ยท Pages Read: 51

I mentioned that I was reading this book on my Livejournal and a friend asked me how it was. My response was that it is just as I remember Anne Rice’s writing being - sort of like the internet - sucking you in but you’re still kind of waiting for something to happen. That is still very true, now past 100 pages in. My memory is developing more fully as I continue - I remember the deal with Michael now, and Rowan, and the pieces of the Mayfair family’s history that are important to the storyline. I remember the girls’ experiences with Lasher and what happened at the end of the last book. In fact, I remember all these things because the book is constantly reminding me of all these things - usually something I really don’t like in series books.

I now see the purpose of repeating everything, and it is completely simple. When these books came out, people weren’t reading them one after another; there was an extended break, and not everyone has the Harry Potter fandom mentality to read all the previous books before the next one is released.

Perhaps I won’t be so annoyed with this redundance now that I’m relying on it.
