One Extra Day This Year

leap day

9:30am to 10:00am. I immediately jumped into this book. Little did I know, it would define the course of the rest of my day.

leap day

10:00am. For breakfast I had a yogurt smoothie and a bowl of oatmeal. The Magic Bullet is my divine savior.

leap day

10:30am to 11:00am. Exercise! The woman on my NutriSystem exercise DVD is really psyched to help me get into shape; she’s kind of creepy. However, it’s an excellent workout.

leap day

11:30am to 12:00pm. I spent this time trading in books (so I could buy something inspirational for my new website design which hopefully now will be coming soon) and depositing my paycheck (so I could pay for rent).

leap day

12:00pm. Today’s clouds. I just like sky pictures.

leap day

12:15pm. Driving home. I wanted to show off my spectacular pants because I’ve been losing weight on a successful diet lately and I can actually fit in these pants again. Estimated time since I’ve worn them: Seven months.

leap day

12:30pm to 1:30pm. Spent some time online - mostly waiting for Richard to get ready for work. (I have to jump his car daily, so I can’t be off doing other things until he’s gone.) I started gathering inspirational quotes.

leap day

2:00pm. After Richard finally made his way to work, I started my trek to GMU. I went there for a few reasons - my inspirational quotes (which failed due to Life of Pi), nostalgia, and wanting to get out of the house. My last leap day was probably spent sitting in the same chair reading some other book. Anyway, this is how much gas I got for $15.50.

leap day

2:40pm to 5:45pm. Ah, this is just the beginning. I didn’t expect to find myself so sucked in to this book, but when I looked up at the clock and saw what time it was, I was absolutely astonished.

leap day

5:50pm. Alas, I was starting to get hungry for dinner (which meant coming home, naturally). So I hung my first quote in a bathroom on the third floor and left hoping that my hours of reading had unintentionally made me avoid rush hour. (It did.)

leap day

6:00pm. Good-bye, beloved campus! I hope to visit you more often this year.

leap day

6:40pm. It was a rather short ride home. I went to Books-A-Million to pick up the other half of rent from Richard. (This way I could deposit it in enough time for it to show up before the check is cashed.) This quote was stuck in the bathroom there. I doubt it’s anywhere but the trashcan now.

leap day

6:45pm. This probably didn’t actually take five whole minutes to post, but here it’s sitting pretty on the mirror (in the same bathroom as mentioned above, which means it too might be residing with halfeaten scones).

leap day

7:00pm. I left another one at the customer service desk for good measure, and shortly after made my way out the door.

leap day

7:30pm. I had to take a hurried photo because someone was coming. I started to feel that anonymity was necessary for this project to be successful; I couldn’t see reactions, and no one was allowed to ask me why. I wonder though… In any case, J.M. Barrie rests on the table inside the building where my bank ATMs are located. I don’t know if anyone routinely cleans it as it’s just a room with two ATMs.

leap day

7:56pm. Here I am home again. Already I was beginning to feel the headache that comes with immense tiredness, but oh no, I wasn’t ready for bed yet…

leap day

8:00pm to 12:00am. Look familiar? Yes, I spent the rest of my night reading (and finishing) this book.

leap day

9:30pm. The only pause was for my macaroni and cheese dinner. Otherwise I lived through every word of that book.

I tried to take a photo every hour but it was really difficult once I got sucked into that book. I’m sure all my photos in the 7:00 hour make up for it, right?

Random Things in My House, Part II

Dec

In Part I, you saw a bunch of random stuff that I felt like taking pictures of even if you didn’t want to see them. In Part II you’ll get some of that, but I’ll also be filling requests.

Hev asked how many piles of books I have, and even though it wasn’t specifically a request for pictures, I took on the task anyway. Below you will see all my stacks of books, though not including those which are haphazardly stacked in front of books on my bookshelves.

LJ friend Malantha asked for the inside of my shower so I’ve taken pictures of the curtain and the tub.

Amanda asked about the top of my bedside table, my biggest mess and my shower curtain (a wish which has already been fulfilled).

Since there weren’t a lot of requests, I took pictures of my Christmasy things since Christmas is still in the air.

Thank you for all the beautiful cards!

An ornament from my ornament swap…

…And the other beautiful one that I received.

I made gingerbread cookies!

Naked gingerbread men!

These are the sad burnt ones which I couldn’t do anything with.

Well, I tried anyway.

Yes, only 12 of them made it out alive. And they’re all so HAPPY.

Delicious.

I’m also taking this opportunity to show off some of my awesome Christmas presents. Don’t look at any of the pictures below if you might go into fits of jealous rage because Amanda made me a booksafe and she didn’t make you one (nevermind that you don’t know her).

Charlie Brown Christmas on DVD. Legends of Literature. Haruki Murakami: Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman (which I already own, oops!), A Wild Sheep Chase, Underground, Dance Dance Dance. Amo, Amas, Amat, and More. The 1,000 Journals Project.

My new laptop! Omigod! THE MONITOR WORKS, isn’t that awesome? Plus, an advantage that Richard pointed out: There isn’t small globs of cake hidden between the keys! Also, yes, I did blot out his leg.

Still have to go to Mom and Dad’s house to give their presents (and receive others, I presume), but I still can’t believe Richard got me a new laptop!

What was your favorite gift received for Christmas? And your favorite gift given?

On another related note (which, by the way, is very rare, because usually “on another note” refers to something that is unrelated but which train of thought somehow connected the two notes), I would like to eventually upload a section under the “about” link which displays the rooms and details of my apartment. Would you like that?

I would like to invite you to put on some overly dramatic instrumental Christmas music as you scroll down to view all these photographs of things in my house. You know, to set the mood.

If, after viewing this exceedingly interesting post, you would like to see anything specific added to this plethora of photographs, please do comment with your ideas. I would be happy to take pictures of my feet or my bath soap, if you desire to know what they look like. (In other words, I’m taking requests.)
