ARC Reading Challenge

I really probably shouldn’t be joining another reading challenge but I really like this one. And while most (if not all) of my ARCs are already released, I still haven’t read them, it’s really been that long. So I’m taking this opportunity to force myself to read at least some of them. This way, at least, I won’t have a “backup” for when/if I do get more! :)

*Note: Some of the books I’m reading for this challenge aren’t necessarily advanced readers copies; some are just “review copies” I’ve received. As I’d like to get through those just as much as the others, I’m including them.

ARC

The challenge will run from June 21, 2008 - September 21, 2008. It will be to help those of us with ARC’s to get in gear and read and review them.

Here are the rules:

1. Make a list of all of the ARC’s that you currently have and/or are on their way to you.

2. If you have:
1-3 ARC’s then pick at least one to read and review for this challenge.
4-6 ARC’s then pick at least two to read and review for this challenge.
7-9 ARC’s then pick at least three to read and review for this challenge.
10 or more Arc’s then pick at least 4 to read and review for this challenge.

3. Crossovers with other challenges are allowed.

4. List the books that you plan to read for this challenge (you can change it at any time, as long as the books you change are also ARCs). You can read the books on your list in any order.

5. Read the books and review them on your blog. If you don’t have a blog, you can post your review on sites like Amazon. Leave a comment on this post with a link to each of your reviews.

6. Be sure to leave a comment on this post with a link to your blog post about this challenge.

7. Enjoy!

So here are my unread ARCs, or at least the ones I could find when I made this post (I’ll likely add the rest later).

  1. Endymion Spring by Matthew Skelton
  2. The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing by M.T. Anderson
  3. New Moon by Stephanie Meyer
  4. Stranger Than Fiction by Chuck Palahniuk
  5. The Shadow Catcher by Marianne Wiggins
  6. Crashing Through by Robert Kurson
  7. Screamfree Parenting by Hal Edward Runkel
  8. Pursuit of Light by Sandy Brewer
  9. Writing Romance by Vanessa Grant

After I finish reading the ones I’m going to read, I’ll probably give them away. Yes, that’s right folks, stay tight and you might just get a free book. (Possibly one you’ve already read, but maybe one which belongs to your favorite author!)

So of my seven (possible eight or nine soon!) I am choosing to give these priority for this challenge:

  • Pursuit of Light by Sandy Brewer
  • Writing Romance by Vanessa Grant
  • New Moon by Stephanie Meyer
  • Edit: Updated my list on receipt of some newer ARCs. :)

    4. M says:

Hev, ARC stands for “advanced reading copy.” You can tell them apart because they’ll usually be in softback (while the book is coming out in hardback), they’re sometimes taller than standard trade paperbacks, and they’ll say “advanced reading copy: not for resale” or “uncorrected proof” all over them. :P

I read about the Challenge on another site — it looks like one I can handle, but I’ve decided not to join this round.

I did enjoy reading your list of ARCs, though! I haven’t heard of several of them, and I’ll look forward to your review of _Screamfree Parenting_ when you get to it.

Hi, I read your story Eloise and found it very interesting. It was very impressive, the way you managed to weave reality with a little touch of mystery and fantasy so seamlessly in so few words. Keep up the good writing. :)
